How do I recheck my baggage and what do I need to know about my self-transfer flight?

How to recheck your baggage

When traveling on a self-transfer flight, if you have checked baggage — or if the airline places your carry-on in the cargo hold — you may need to collect and recheck it before your next flight.

Follow these steps:

  • At your transit airport, head to the baggage claim area and find the belt displaying your previous flight number.
  • Exit the visa-free zone and take your baggage to the check-in counter or baggage drop-off for your next flight.
  • Check in again
  • Pass through security control, and proceed to your next departure gate.

Important:

Even if you don’t have checked baggage or have already checked in for your next flight, some airports may require you to exit the visa-free zone and re-enter through security. Always double-check the entry requirements and necessary travel documents for your destination with your airlines.

Transfer between terminals or airports

If you’re connecting through a large international airport, your next flight might depart from a different terminal or even a different airport in the same city. In these cases:

  • Collect your baggage.
  • Leave the visa-free area.
  • Make your way to the correct terminal or airport for your next departure.

Remember:

You're responsible for making it to your next flight on time. If you miss it, the remaining part of your trip may be automatically canceled. Should that happen, contact us — we'll do our best to help you continue your journey.

If your layover is long, you may choose to leave the airport, but keep in mind:

  • You are responsible for your baggage.
  • You must return in time for your next flight’s check-in and security procedures.
